The British royal family (BUSINESS INSIDER) has been the center of attention in the tabloid media for a long time. There have been various scandals and controversies that have made headlines over the years, such as extramarital affairs, financial scandals, and more (HISTORIC NEWSPAPER).

One of the earliest scandals involving the royal family was the affair (THE WASHINGTON POST) between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. Although the affair was widely rumored in the press, it wasn't until a 1992 phone call between Charles and Camilla was leaked to the media that the affair became public knowledge. This revelation had a significant impact on the public image of the royal family, with many people expressing disappointment and anger over the affair.

In 1997, the royal family faced another scandal with the sudden death of Princess Diana. Conspiracy theories and rumors about the circumstances of her death were rampant in the tabloid media, with some outlets even suggesting that the royal family was somehow involved. The scandal led to a significant shift in public opinion about the royal family, with many people expressing sympathy for Diana and criticizing the royal family's response to her death.

In 2002, the royal family faced a financial scandal (BUSINESS INSIDER) involving Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. The scandal involved allegations that Prince Andrew had accepted gifts and favors from a wealthy businessman, which led to questions about his ethics and judgment. The scandal had a significant impact on Prince Andrew's public image, and he was forced to resign from his role as the UK's special representative for trade and investment.

In 2012, the royal family faced another scandal (TODAY) involving Prince Harry. The scandal involved photos of Prince Harry taken during a private vacation in Las Vegas, which were leaked to the media. These photos showed Prince Harry engaged in partying and drinking, leading to questions about his judgment and suitability for his role in the royal family.

In 2018, the royal family faced another scandal (THE WASHINGTON POST) with the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The wedding was widely covered by the media, but some outlets published stories that were critical of Markle's background and ethnicity. The scandal led to a significant backlash against the media, with many people criticizing the outlets for their racist and sexist coverage. When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took a step back from the Royal Family, the tabloid media became even more brutal towards Meghan specifically calling the event 'Megxit' (WIKI). Now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have dwelled on the "horrible" tabloid media and press and have had to change their image many times because of controversy; I have many negative opinions of Harry and Meghan, but I do believe that the tabloid media overstepped some of the times that they mentioned.

In 2019, the royal family faced another scandal involving Prince William and rumors of an affair (HINDUUSTANTIMES). The scandal was fueled by claims that Prince William had an affair with a close friend of his wife, Kate Middleton. The rumors spread on social media, with many people expressing shock and disappointment over the alleged affair. The incident raised important questions about the role of media in society and the impact of rumors and unverified claims on public figures.

Recently, there have been reports about King Charles being diagnosed with cancer (BBC), and some tabloid media outlets have sensationalized this news, making it appear as if he was dying. While this is not real journalism and is very unethical, it is still entertaining for some.

Even more recently, Kate Middleton disappeared from the public eye for what was known as an abdomen surgery. There was a trend occurring around the world where people made fun of the situation, and now we know that she actually had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. It was appalling and disgusting how the tabloids handled this situation.

Throughout these scandals and controversies, the media has played a significant role in shaping public opinion and perception of the royal family (NPR).Some critics argue that the media often focuses on sensational and scandalous stories at the expense of accurate and responsible journalism. Others argue that the media has a responsibility to hold public figures accountable for their actions and to report on issues that are in the public interest.
